Automatic quality adjustment

Where before you often had to re-jpg your render to be able to upload it (especially very large / busy colonies), with the latest version of the progress renderer mod comes the option to automatically adjust the image quality. The render will roughly be the filesize selected in the mod settings. This makes posting a render much less work. Here's the new settings and recommendations for posting on RWP

Post directly to Rimworld gallery to avoid filesize limits
If you are active on reddit, don't forget to post a link on /r/RimWorldPorn so your fellow redditors can enjoy your render as well!

Making renders
Tip: make your render at noon and disable all overlays, colonies don't look as nice in the dark on a render as they do in game. To make a hi-res jpg render, you can use the progress renderer mod steam / Github. This mod will automatically make renders, and by pressing 9 you can make one on demand, which will be in the manually folder. Note: zooming out too far will cause colonists not to be rendered

Making the render suitable for posting:

Once you have the mod working, you can change its settings (like scaling) via options, mod settings. Make sure you get this right, pictures with low resolution or quality will be removed. Check the quality section below for more info. Use .jpg, other formats will give files likely too large to post

Update: Automatic quality adjustment

Before you often had to rescale your render to be able to upload it, especially very large / busy colonies. With the latest version of the progress renderer mod comes the option to automatically adjust the image quality so it will roughly be the filesize selected in the mod settings. This makes posting a render much less work. Here's the recommended settings

Posting the image in the RimWorldPorn magazine on rimworld.gallery:

Make sure you're logged in to rimworld.gallery and in the /m/RimWorldPorn magazine. Click the plus, add new photo, select your render, and enter a title (see rules) and description and submit. Uploading may take a while as you are uploading a large file

If you like add a description and a modlist to the comments. After posting, feel free to add a link to it on the RimWorldPorn subreddit for maximum exposability

If the file is too large to post on RimWorldPorn (Failed uploads are usually caused by this)

Make sure you are using a .JPG, other formats won't work. The easy solution is using automatic quality adjustment, see above. Cropping might sound like a good option, but preferably not. Instead, open the image in paint.net (windows) or Gimp, and save it as a .jpg. Both programs give you the option to alter the quality and give you a preview of the filesize. Aim for 30MB. Most instances will not allow such large files to be uploaded. In that case, please post directly on the Rimworld gallery

Colony Quality
Any colony may be posted here. There is no such thing as a low quality colony. If you are playing your colony and like it, so will we. Here's some tips for the renderer settings. If you are in doubt about your colony being good enough, don't be, but make sure to read rule 3

Image quality
Posted images have to be high resolution. Aim for a filesize of 25MB. Upscaling will not improve quality. Instead, use the PR mod to make a new render and start from there

Making a perfect render
If you want your colony to really shine, follow the tips but set encoding to PNG and Pixels per cell to 40. Then open the PNG with an image editing program that can show you the file size when saving as a JPG, like paint.net or gimp. Aim for 30MB, if you have a very large or busy render which is hard to compress, the absolute limit is 35MB. This should give you a very nice JPG to upload
